Thinking about Father’s Day: A Tactical Bag I Really Don’t Need

With Father’s Day coming up (Sunday, June 17, 2019), I have been thinking about what hints to drop and about stuff I don’t really need.

At the top of the list is this “tactical bag” made by Korchmar. Korchmar is a Cincinnati-based company that makes leather briefcases, travel bags and accessories for business professionals right here in the US of A. (All of the photos have links to more information from the manufacturer.)

Will this bag help me hone my tactical skills? I doubt it, but it will hold my laptop securely with enough style to step out comfortably at Transfer Co. Food Hall or Raleigh Raw. There’s some value in that. $390 (on sale) takes it away.

Korchmar is part of the Allen Edmonds “artisans of freedom” group, which manufactures shoes, clothes, and accessories domestically. Allen Edmonds has a shop at Crabtree. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all of the group’s products.

Maybe a more reasonable purchase would be these flip flops. This would be great for the pool. It looks like there’s way more grip than your standard bargain bin foam flops. They should stand up for many summers and work for around the house in winter, too.

I’m also digging this Hamilton Jacket by Cockpit USA.  You can find jackets for less than $450. But they won’t be made in America, they won’t be made by the Official Supplier to the US Air Force of the A-2 Leather Pilot Jacket, and they probably won’t come with the promise replace the cuffs, waistband, zipper, lining and even the collar” of the jacket.

So, there are some Father’s Day ideas. It’s up to you to figure out how to drop the hints.

[NOTE: This is not a sponsored post. I have personally visited the Allen Edmonds store in Crabtree. I was impressed with the quality of their American-made products. I recently bought a pair of dress shoes there with my own money.]

Plates Neighborhood Kitchen is a place you will want to consider, especially for a date night. The food is great. The outside seating is very pleasant. The location lends itself to dinner and, afterwards, a stroll a down Glenwood South for a drink.

If you’re up for brunch, Plate has you covered for that, too; everyday except Monday, 10:30 am until 2:30 pm.

The menu is varied. The June menu features small plate like crab and scallop fritters and beef tartare, as well as main dishes such as filet au poivre and fried chicken.
